Terms of service

Human Substrate is a research and self-tracking tool. You give it data about your symptoms, genetics, labs, and daily state; it returns named patterns with evidence and suggested next steps. The model is probabilistic, the suggestions are research-backed, and the only person it’s designed to help is you.

By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms.

Not medical advice. Human Substrate is not a doctor, not a clinic, not a diagnostic instrument, not a substitute for professional medical care. Findings are hypotheses you can take to a qualified clinician — they are not prescriptions, diagnoses, or treatment plans.

Not therapy. The chat surface is a structured self-reflection tool with crisis detection. It is not a licensed therapist, counselor, psychiatrist, or psychologist. It cannot prescribe medication or provide emergency mental-health care.

Not an emergency service. If you are in crisis or considering self-harm, contact emergency services immediately. In the US, call or text 988. In Canada, call or text 9-8-8. Outside North America, contact local emergency services. Do not rely on Human Substrate.

Be a real person, of legal adult age in your jurisdiction (18+ in most of the US and Canada).

Give accurate information about yourself. Garbage in, garbage out — the model can only work on what you tell it. Don’t create accounts on behalf of other people, and don’t enter someone else’s health data without their consent.

Use it for your own self-understanding. Not for diagnosing third parties, not for clinical decisions about patients, not for insurance underwriting, not for employment screening.

Don’t abuse the service. No scraping, no automated bulk access, no probing for vulnerabilities, no using it to generate content that violates law. If you find a security issue, email hello@humansubstrate.com.

Some features require a paid tier. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time via the Stripe customer portal from /account; cancellation stops the next renewal but does not refund the current period.

We may change prices for future billing periods. You will see the new price before it takes effect and can cancel if you don’t want to continue.

Refunds are case-by-case. If something went wrong on our end, email and we’ll sort it out.

You own what you put into Human Substrate. We don’t claim any ownership of your assessment responses, chat messages, genetics imports, labs, or notes. See the Privacy Policy for what we store, where, and who can see it.

To run the service, you grant us the limited right to process your content — store it, send chat messages to Anthropic to generate replies, run pattern matching against it, and show it back to you. Nothing beyond that.

You can export everything we have on you, or delete your account, from /account. We comply with both immediately.

Replies from the chat are generated by a large language model (Claude, by Anthropic). LLMs can be wrong, can hallucinate citations, and can produce confident-sounding text that doesn’t match the underlying evidence. Substrate’s scaffolding — crisis detection, finding linkage, evidence tracing — reduces this risk but does not eliminate it. Treat AI replies as a starting point for your own thinking, not as verified fact.

Human Substrate is provided “as is” with no warranty. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service — including but not limited to medical decisions you make based on findings, suggestions, or chat replies.

For direct damages, total liability is capped at the greater of (a) what you paid for the service in the prior 12 months or (b) CAD $100.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow these limits. If yours doesn’t, the limits apply only to the extent permitted.

You can delete your account any time from /account. We can suspend or close accounts that violate these terms (abuse, fraud, scraping, security probing, etc.) — usually with notice, immediately if necessary.

On termination, your data is deleted per the Privacy Policy. Sections of these terms that should reasonably survive — liability limits, your ownership of content, governing law — survive.

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are resolved in the courts of British Columbia, unless your local consumer-protection law requires otherwise.

When these terms change materially, signed-in users will see a notice on next sign-in and have to acknowledge it. Minor edits (typos, clarifications) just update this page. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change.
